H.O.W. my journey began and H.O.W. is it going…

Hi, I’m Dr. Tracy R. Wilson, a nurse practitioner, medical-affairs leader, bioethicist, educator, author, mentor, and speaker.

For more than 25 years, my career has taken me across clinical practice, nursing education, academia, pharmaceutical and biotechnology medical affairs, health policy, patient advocacy, and professional leadership. I have spent the past decade in field medical and medical affairs, translating complex science into meaningful conversations with clinicians, healthcare organizations, advocates, and the communities they serve.

But my career path was not always obvious.

Throughout the years, nurses and other healthcare professionals repeatedly contacted me with the same question: “How?”

How did you become a nurse practitioner? How did you move from clinical practice into the pharmaceutical industry? How did you identify the right opportunities, build relationships, and translate your experience for an entirely different professional environment?

Those conversations became the foundation for H.O.W.

I created H.O.W. to help healthcare professionals, especially nurses and nurse practitioners, move beyond career uncertainty and make informed, credible transitions into pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, medical affairs, leadership, and other nonclinical roles. My approach combines practical career strategy, mentoring, honest guidance, and the perspective of someone who has navigated these transitions firsthand.

My experience includes launching multiple pharmaceutical products, contributing to health-equity and patient-advocacy initiatives, developing clinical education, and helping create professional communities where nurses and nurse practitioners can explore careers beyond traditional practice. Today, I am a founding co-chair of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Industry and Executive NP Community, which connects NPs working in or interested in industry and executive roles. AANP verifies this current leadership role.

I also served on the national writing panel for the 2025 revision of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses and have written and spoken about medical affairs, nursing leadership, health equity, patient safety, ethics, advocacy, and professional development. My published work includes a 2026 article in the Journal of Patient Safety. PubMed publication record

My work has been recognized through Inducted Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing, the National Academies of Practice, and the American Academy of Nursing. I was also selected to receive the 2026 Texas Nurse Practitioners Community Impact Award.

Although these experiences shape the guidance I provide, H.O.W. is not about following my exact path. It is about helping you recognize the value of your own experience, communicate that value clearly, and build a realistic strategy for where you want to go next.

I can help you understand the path, prepare for the journey, and connect the dots. The commitment and the work belong to you.

Outside of my professional life, I am a wife and mother of two. My family keeps me grounded and busy with competitive cheer, sports, and our shared love of travel. Exploring countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean has expanded my understanding of culture, health equity, and the many ways people experience healthcare around the world.

Let’s work together to identify H.O.W. I can help you meet your next goal.

Motivation comes from within — and I’m here to help you activate it.
